We are delighted to announce that we have promoted five employees to Legal Director and Senior Associate roles at our Nottingham office.
Craig Staten-Spencer, Melanie Morton, Claire McLeod, and Lewis Hastie have been promoted to Legal Director, while Nicola Clarke has been promoted to Senior Associate. Collectively, they have worked at Nelsons for more than 38 years and are thrilled that they have been recognised for their abilities in their respective fields of expertise.
Court of Protection specialist, Craig, joined us in 2011 after moving from a career in banking to fulfil his dream of working in the legal industry. He said:
“As part of my role, I get the opportunity to work alongside vulnerable people and help to empower them to live the best life they can, which is extremely rewarding.”
Melanie, an employment law specialist who joined us in 2010, has specialised in her area of expertise since 2007. She said:
“Employment law is fast moving and challenging; the variety in our day-to-day work is exciting and you never know what quirky queries each day will bring. I love empowering clients to make informed decisions and resolve disputes.”
Professional standards expert, Claire, joined us in 2014 after wanting a career change, having previously specialised in family law. She said:
“At the time, Nelsons provided a rare opportunity to change track and I’m delighted to have worked my way up the ranks to become a legal director.”
Dispute resolution specialist, Lewis, who has 11 years’ post-qualification experience as a litigator, joined us in 2017. He said:
“The opportunity to develop a niche in Court of Protection disputes has been extremely rewarding and I have mainly acted for the relatives and friends of people who lack capacity, giving them a voice against large organisations and helping them do what they believe is best for a protected party.”
Commercial property law specialist, Nicola, joined us in 2018 – a year after qualifying as a solicitor. She said:
“Buying, leasing or disposing of commercial property can be a stressful time, so I make it my priority to ensure the transaction goes as smoothly as possible to enable my clients to continue with their day jobs of running a business. I’m extremely pleased that my expertise and hard work has been recognised.”
We have recently introduced these new Legal Director and Senior Associate roles to bridge the gap between Associate and Partner.
Our Chief Executive, Stewart Vandermark, said:
“These new senior roles recognise individuals with excellent expertise in their field. Craig, Melanie, Claire, Lewis and Nicola are valuable members of the Nelsons team and are very deserving of their promotions. Their development while at Nelsons has been exceptional and I am delighted to congratulate them on attaining their more senior roles at our Nottingham office.”
