Protecting your rights at work
It is against the law for employers to discriminate against their employees on grounds of their disability, race, sex, sexual orientation, age, marriage and civil partnership, gender reassignment, or religion or belief under the Equality Act 2010.
Workplace discrimination claim solicitors
At Nelsons, our team of expert employment law solicitors have extensive experience in workplace discrimination claims and can help you if you are discriminated against:
- When applying for a job;
- Whilst doing your job; or
- In promotion, transfer or training opportunities.
Workplace discrimination claims are typically complicated, and each circumstance is unique to that person. We want to ensure that you don’t pay more than you need to for advice on your employment law issue and offer initial appointments where you will see a member of our employment team based on the complexity of your case and their experience and expertise. The charges for these appointments are based on our hourly rates and include up to a one-hour appointment, where you will be able to find out what your legal rights and options are, along with confirmation of our advice after the appointment.

Progressing a discrimination at work claim
You can complain to the Employment Tribunal if you have been disadvantaged at work due to discrimination.
If you succeed with a discrimination at work claim, your employer can be ordered:
- To pay compensation – including compensation for injury to feelings
- To take steps to reduce the adverse effect of the discrimination
If the discrimination happened when you applied for a job, the Tribunal can recommend that you be offered it and if the employer refuses they can be ordered to pay you compensation.
