Leading business figures across the country are celebrating after being named in the Queen’s 2021 New Year Honours list – and one such name is Partner and head of our Family Law team in Leicester, Glynis Wright.
The list recognises the achievements of a wide range of extraordinary people across the United Kingdom and the incredible efforts they’ve put in throughout 2020 and beyond. In Glynis’ case, she’s been awarded an MBE for her services to furthering the cause of female entrepreneurship.
She said:
“It truly is a privilege to have received an MBE in the 2021 New Year Honours list and I’d like to take the opportunity to thank anyone who put me forward as a nominee. 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone, and the fact that anyone took the time to nominate me for my work in supporting and encouraging female entrepreneurs makes it even more special.”
Glynis, who retrained as a lawyer at the age of 40, graduated with multiple distinctions and set up her own law firm, Glynis Wright & Co, in Leicester in 2011. In 2018, it became the first and only Leicester firm to win Law Firm of the Year in the national Law Society Excellence Awards. It has built a very strong reputation in the Leicester area, and places an emphasis on its charitable work, with Glynis recently named as fundraiser of the year at the Leicestershire Community Champion Awards 2020.
As part of our ambitious strategy for growth in Leicester and the wider East Midlands region, we announced the acquisition of Glynis Wright & Co in December with Glynis joining as a Partner and head of our Leicester Family Law team.
Glynis added:
“2021 marks a new era in my career and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to start the new year and my journey with Nelsons whose ambitions match up perfectly with my own.”
Our Chief Executive, Stewart Vandermark, said:
“I first met Glynis back in 2019 and was immediately struck by her passion, vision, energy and the leadership she has shown to build the practice from a start-up to a leading family law firm in such a short period of time. We shared similar ideas on the importance of investing in our people and building a strong culture.
“We couldn’t be prouder of Glynis for being awarded her MBE. The work she’s done since setting up her own firm almost ten years ago is astounding and she’s a role model to the next generation of aspiring solicitors. 2021 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for Nelsons and I’m looking forward to working closely with Glynis and her team who have joined us as we look to develop the Leicester market and realise our vision of becoming the strongest and biggest family law department in the East Midlands.”
