Asbestos exposure and related diseases
Exposure to asbestos can cause a wide range of illnesses, such as asbestosis, lung cancer, mesothelioma and pleural plaques.
Since the 1970’s there have been strict regulations regarding the use of asbestos and it is possible to make asbestos claims relating to exposure dating back many years. A person who has been exposed to asbestos during their life may not discover that exposure to asbestos might have caused them harm for a very long time.
This is partly due to the latency period for asbestos-related diseases which can be very long, normally between 25 and 50 years. When the person discovers the disease, it may be difficult to identify when they were exposed to asbestos.

Asbestos claims
If you or a relative are suffering from an asbestos-related disease, or if one of your relatives has died as a result of being exposed to asbestos, we may be able to help you claim compensation.
A compensation claim can be started:
- Within three years of being informed of the condition by a doctor
- Within three years of death
- The time limit starts at the diagnosis of the victim’s condition, rather than when the asbestos exposure happened
