Full Earnings To Be Used To Calculate Rates Of Pay For Various Forms Of Parental Leave So Furloughed Workers Are Not Disadvantaged

Laura Kearsley

The Government has released guidance in relation to furloughed workers who are planning to take maternity leave, paternity leave, shared parental leave, parental bereavement leave or adoption leave.

Parental leave and furloughed workers

For any such leave taken on or after 25th April 2020, furloughed workers will be entitled to an average of their usual earnings rather than a furloughed pay rate, provided they meet the usual eligibility criteria. Therefore, those intending to take time off following the birth, adoption, or death of a child will not see their entitlement to pay affected as a result of being furloughed.
