2025 was another exceptional year for Nelsons’ Clinical Negligence team. Working across our Nottingham, Leicester and Derby offices, the team recovered more than £31.5 million in compensation for clients affected by negligent medical treatment — a testament to our expertise, dedication, and unwavering commitment to achieving justice.

Specialists in complex and life‑changing clinical negligence claims

Our experienced team advises on the full spectrum of clinical negligence matters, including catastrophic injuries, fatal cases, surgical errors, delays in diagnosis, psychiatric injuries and representation at inquests. What drives us is simple: ensuring our clients and their families receive the support, answers and compensation they need to rebuild their lives.

Landmark settlements achieved in 2025

£17 million award for a child with a brain injury – Partner Julie Hardy secured a settlement comprising a lump sum plus annual periodical payments for care and case management for a child who suffered a brain injury due to a delay in diagnosing Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM). The capitalised value of the award exceeded £17 million.

Emma Zukowska secured over £5 million on behalf of a client who required bilateral lower-limb amputations.

Almost £7 million for a brain injury case – Matthew Olner achieved a settlement for a young woman who suffered brain injury following untreated and undiagnosed hypoglycaemia.

Prioritising early support through interim payments

Securing interim payments is a key part of our approach. In addition to the final awards detailed above, throughout 2025 we obtained hundreds of thousands of pounds in interim payments to help clients access care, support, mobility aids and treatment at the earliest opportunity.
