As we previously reported, the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) – the measure introduced to help employers retain and pay their employees (up to a limit of £2,500 per employee) during the coronavirus pandemic – portal was launched on Monday morning and, as expected, many employers were quick off the mark in submitting claims for their furloughed employees.
CJRS portal statistics
According to a HM Revenue & Customs’ tweet, the CJRS portal recorded the following statistics in its opening 24 hours:
- 185,000 employers submitted claims
- 1,300,000 employees reported as furloughed so far
- Total value of £1.5 billion
Early reports from those who have used the CJRS portal indicate that it is relatively easy to use and it seems to be working quite well.
Late last week, a step by step guide for employers was published by the Government on how to reclaim employees’ wages through the CJRS. It is recommended that employers read the guide in detail and gather all the necessary information prior to submitting a claim as an application can only be filled in and submitted in one session, there is no ‘save and return’ option and sessions time out after 30 minutes’ inactivity.
