According to reports since 2015, there have been claims that some artificial lens implants have caused recipients to suffer varying degrees of sight loss or impairment.
The claims are currently being investigated after a number of patients, who had opted for lens implants to improve their vision, reported suffering from varying degrees of sight loss or impairment, particularly cloudy or blurry vision. The lenses in question are the Mplus X lens, and it has been reported that these lenses were implanted into the eyes of over 6,500 patients, some of them inserted by eye surgery provider Optical Express. It is not clear whether any other eye surgery providers used these lenses.
The medical procedure involved with the lens is a corrective procedure, called refractive lens exchange, which aims to repair minor eyesight problems.
