Sarcoma Awareness Month 2025

Reading time: 3 minutes

Every July, communities around the world unite to observe Sarcoma Awareness Month. It is a time dedicated to raising visibility for one of the rarest and most overlooked forms of cancer.

In 2025, the spotlight is on early diagnosis and the vital role healthcare professionals play in improving outcomes for those affected by sarcoma.

What is sarcoma?

Sarcoma is a rare cancer that develops in the bones and soft tissues, including muscles, fat, nerves, and blood vessels.

It accounts for only around one percent of adult cancers and a higher proportion in children, making it a condition that many people, and even some doctors, may never encounter in their lifetime. This rarity often leads to delayed diagnoses, which can significantly affect treatment success and survival rates.

This year, Sarcoma UK is leading a powerful campaign focused on empowering healthcare professionals. The initiative aims to equip GPs, physiotherapists, and other frontline clinicians with the tools and knowledge they need to recognise the early signs of sarcoma.

Through practical guides, real-life case studies, and targeted training resources, the campaign is working to close the gap between symptom onset and diagnosis.

What can I do to support?

Supporters are encouraged to get involved by ordering awareness packs, sharing educational content online, and contributing to fundraising efforts that support professional development and diagnostic innovation.

Globally, the Sarcoma Foundation of America is also hosting a series of events to engage the public and foster community.

One of the most visible moments of the month is Wear Yellow Wednesday, when people are invited to wear yellow clothing and share their photos to show solidarity.

Later in the month, Sarcoma Advocacy Weekend brings together patients, carers, and advocates for workshops and networking.

The weekend culminates in the National Race to Cure Sarcoma. On 25 July, landmarks around the world will be illuminated in yellow as part of the Light Up for Sarcoma campaign.

This is a powerful visual reminder of the lives touched by this disease. For younger voices, a children’s art competition offers a creative outlet to express hope and raise awareness.

The importance of Sarcoma Awareness Month cannot be overstated. Because sarcoma is so rare, many healthcare providers may only see a handful of cases in their careers.

Yet, early detection can make a life-saving difference.

By raising awareness, sharing knowledge, and supporting those on the front line of care, we can change the story for thousands of patients and families.

Whether you are learning about sarcoma for the first time or have been personally affected, this month is a chance to educate, engage, and empower.

Together, we can bring sarcoma out of the shadows and into the light.
