Nelsons represented Mr A in a claim against a GP who failed to send a referral for suspected urological cancer.
Mr A visited his GP practice in August 2015 complaining of urinary urgency and a red colour to his urine. He attended the GP practice who took a urine sample. The results showed that blood was present in the sample and the GP noted that a referral should be made for suspected urological cancer however due to a human error this referral was never made.
Mr A attended the GP practice again in March 2016 and again a urine sample showed blood in his urine. A referral was to made Royal Derby Hospital where Mr A was diagnosed with bladder cancer which had spread to his liver and sadly he was told this was incurable.
The GP practice admitted that a referral should have been made in August 2015 and Nelsons obtained expert evidence which showed that the cancer would not have spread but for the negligence.
Nelsons were able to settle this claim for a five figure sum.
