Action For Brain Injury Awareness Week 2025 – “On A Good Day”

Reading time: 3 minutes

This week is Action for Brain Injury Week. Every year, Action for Brain Injury Week provides a vital opportunity to raise awareness for individuals and families affected by acquired brain injuries.

Over 1 million people in the UK attend A&E every year with a head injury. While many people recover quickly after a head injury, this is not always the case, and many others experience longer-term effects.

The effects—whether physical, cognitive, or emotional—can be lifelong and often vary every day.

On a “Good Day”, a brain injury survivor may be able to go to work, study, or interact with friends, family, and carers without their symptoms becoming debilitating.

On a “Bad Day”, a brain injury survivor can experience a range of symptoms that have a huge impact on their day and relationships. The most commonly fluctuating symptoms of brain injury are fatigue, memory problems, anxiety and concentration.

73% of brain injury survivors feel their relationships are worse on a bad day, and 72% find it difficult to do things independently when brain injury symptoms make it a “Bad Day”.

How you can get involved

There are many ways you help raise awareness:

  • Share Your Story: What does a “good day” look like for you or someone you know? Join the conversation online using #OnAGoodDay and #ABIWeek25.
  • Light Up for ABI Week: Over 60 landmarks across the UK will illuminate on May 23rd to show solidarity. Snap a picture and share it to spread awareness.
  • Make a donation: Consider making a donation to your local Headway charity, who provide vital support to individuals in the local community affected by brain injury.

Comment

This week is about understanding both sides of brain injury and celebrating the resilience of brain injury survivors. It is important to highlight the significant work organisations such as Headway (including local Headway organisations like Headway Nottingham, which we have been fortunate to support this year) in helping brain injury survivors in the local community to have more “Good Days”.
