Every year on the third Sunday of November, RoadPeace and countless others come together to honour all those who have been killed or seriously injured due to road traffic accidents.

A day of reflection and solidarity

Originally founded by RoadPeace in 1993, World Day of Remembrance has grown globally to reflect on their commitment for safer roads and was even recognised in 2005 by the United Nations as a global day to be observed. The World Day of Remembrance has been promoted by international agencies, governments and groups such as the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims (FEVR), the International Road Victims’ Partnership (IRVP) and the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety.

This year’s theme is “Remember. Support. Act” alongside their Decade of Action for Road Safety which is a 2021 – 2030 campaign aiming to achieve a 50% road casualty reduction target. Every year however, the objective of World Day of Remembrance is provide a platform for road traffic victims and their families to:

  • remember all people killed and seriously injured on the roads;
  • acknowledge the crucial work of the emergency services;
  • draw attention to the generally trivial legal response to culpable road deaths and injuries and advocate for an appropriately serious response;
  • advocate for better support for road traffic victims and victim families;
  • promote evidence-based actions to prevent and eventually stop further road traffic deaths and injuries

Remembrance events

With events in Birmingham, Bath, Liverpool, London and Northampton, many came together to reflect, find comfort in community and share collective strength. The events do not solely run in the U.K. either, there are further events in Swaziland, Pakistan, South Africa and Nepal to name a few.

Our commitment to road safety and justice

At Nelsons, we work closely with individuals and families affected by road traffic accidents. We see firsthand the physical, emotional, and financial toll these events take. That’s why we stand in solidarity with RoadPeace and support their mission to improve road safety, secure justice for victims, and ensure that no one has to navigate the aftermath of a crash alone.

If you or someone you know has been affected by a road traffic incident, please know that you are not alone. Our team is here to listen, support, and help you seek the justice you deserve.
