Stewart took home the company leader (100+ employees) award at the ceremony last week (6 November). The awards, organised by The Business Desk, showcases the very best leaders and organisations across the region.
Stewart qualified as a solicitor in 1994 and joined us in 2001, where he worked as part of the our dispute resolution team. He became chief executive in June 2017 – which marked the first leadership change since we were established in 1983 – and is now responsible for the strategic oversight of our company.
When Stewart became chief executive, we embarked on a journey to capture the spirit of what made Nelsons in the early years, which meant we could then continue to evolve in fresh ways relevant for the modern world. Since then, we have launched a fresh vision and values, re-branded, implemented a weekly and in-depth quarterly happiness survey to improve employee engagement and gain valuable insight, and invested in Surface Pros so work can be done in a more agile way.
Speaking after his win, Stewart said:
“I’m delighted to have been named as the East Midlands’ top company leader for businesses with more than 100 employees. It’s a fantastic recognition of the journey Nelsons has been on over the last two years and it’s so rewarding to have our hard work commended by the judges.
“Everyone has really embraced the changes we’ve made and the ambitious goals we’ve set. Nelsons has always been forward thinking, with aims of being the leading law firm in the East Midlands. What we have achieved so far is a real team effort and I’m proud to be able to continue leading the firm on this journey, raising our profile and celebrating the work we do.”
