Two New Appointments Bolster Nelsons’ Medical Negligence Team

We have recently welcomed a new Partner and Associate to our expert Medical Negligence team based in our Nottingham office, who between them bring almost two decades of experience.

Lucy Wilton, who joins as a Partner, has built a well-respected career as a specialist clinical negligence solicitor over the past 15 years, having previously worked for the law firm, Russell-Cooke LLP in London, where she became a Partner in 2018. Meanwhile, Associate, Rachel Benton, began her career at Freeths LLP just under four years ago where she trained and qualified as a solicitor, before joining us.

Lucy and Rachel both specialise in clinical negligence which, for Lucy, also includes representing and advising clients at inquests. Cases they advise on involve medical, nursing or health-related care where someone has been injured or, tragically, died as a result of potential errors or failings.

Lucy studied law at the University of Oxford, where she graduated in 2003.  Speaking about her appointment, Lucy said:

“I was looking for a firm with an excellent reputation in clinical negligence and views that clearly aligned with my own. Nelsons’ emphasis on giving clients the best possible experience resonated with me hugely and I have been made to feel very welcome since joining.

“My top priority is always my clients. I can’t wait to really begin to make a difference in people’s lives and am also excited to get involved in the charitable activities that Nelsons is well known for.”

Rachel who graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2018 with a degree in law said:

“One of the things I enjoy most about working on clinical negligence cases is building strong relationships with clients and helping them through the claims process which can feel very daunting. I can support and reassure those clients when they are going through a difficult time in their life.

“The most rewarding part of my job is succeeding in a case that enables a client to receive compensation, which they can put towards making their home more accessible, providing physiotherapy or rehabilitation, all of which can allow that person to enjoy a higher quality of life.”

Bruce Williams, head of our Medical Negligence team, said:

“We are delighted to have welcomed both Lucy Wilton and Rachel Benton to Nelsons. We have been looking to strategically grow our highly specialised clinical negligence team and Lucy and Rachel bring a wealth of experience between them that will help bolster the expert services that we offer to clients.”
