Our Leicester office has received the Giving Back Award to mark ten years of dedicated support to local charity, Leicestershire Cares.
Our city centre-based team was acknowledged at the annual Leicestershire Cares Celebration, which recognises the support that business members provide to initiatives across Leicester and the wider county.
Recently, the team joined a local group. Toys on the Table. to create beautifully wrapped gifts for children who might otherwise not receive anything this festive season and also held a Christmas collection for those experiencing homelessness. The new year will be marked by another exciting challenge, with plans in place to create a mural at Goldhill Adventure Playground as well as painting its sensory rooms.

In previous years, our team has completed a broad range of activities from mock interviews at schools to creating sensory gardens and updating other adventure playgrounds in the county with a fresh coat of paint.
Leicestershire Cares aims to bring businesses, local government, schools and community groups together to share skills and knowledge with young people and disadvantaged groups to create lasting positive change in the county.
Lewis Addison, Partner in our Leicester office said:
“Our team has always felt that the work Leicestershire Cares does really makes an impact where it matters; directly within communities that reach people from diverse backgrounds. We have therefore always had strong team engagement to support the initiatives we undertake which is reflected in our recent achievement of working alongside them for 10 years.
“With young people and the county’s vulnerable particularly feeling the effects of the current economic climate, we recognise that it’s important to maintain momentum and continue our support. The Giving Back Award was a fantastic motivator and we’ll be kicking off 2023 with more activities to donate our time and energy to.”
Leicestershire Cares relies on volunteers from the community to assist with activities such as career talks, mock interviews and sport and employability sessions, as well as supporting initiatives such as food parcel donations and gift-wrapping presents for young children along with other festive projects.
In the last year, Leicestershire Cares has helped 10,097 young people in schools across the county develop soft and hard employability skills through face-to-face training and workshops. It has also fed 4,750 families through its Holiday Hunger food initiative and delivered 1,171 Bags of Hope to the community via 44 community partners.
Neetu Squire, Head of Community Development at Leicestershire Cares, said:
“We would like to thank Nelsons for its continued support and commitment to improving the lives of young people. We’re dedicated to creating partnerships with the local community to develop initiatives and projects that offer young people the opportunities to develop new skills, regardless of their situation.”
