After a strong 2022 performance and signs of rising demand in the retail and industrial market, we have bolstered our Derby Commercial Property team through new leadership.
Following on from his promotion to Partner, Paul Hinchliffe has relocated from our Nottingham office to head up the Derby team.
Providing additional expertise and support for clients will be longstanding colleague, Sarah Burns, who was recently promoted to Senior Associate, Trainee Solicitor, Amy Birkinshaw, who joined in 2020 and Consultant, Martin Jinks, whose 40 years’ experience will provide support to the team as it develops and grows.
Paul said:
“The increase in commercial property transactions across Derby and Derbyshire is a major driver for the strengthening of our services at this office. There has been no slowdown in the market and we’re seeing a real demand for retail and industrial properties. As interest rates begin to settle this year and more opportunities are available for investors, we’re expecting new and existing clients to need our insight and guidance.
“I’m thrilled to be leading a great team in Derby, which has been made possible through the support I have received from Nelsons and my colleagues. After six years in Nottingham, I am ready for the next challenge.”
Our Commercial Property team works with clients across the region, as well as further afield, with experience in landlord and tenant investors, acquisitions, pension schemes, disposals, secured lending and asset management.
Paul added:
“No two days are the same and our team is fortunate to deal with a variety of clients, advising on everything from farms to restaurants, mini-golf venues to multi-million-pound developments. There is always something interesting to tackle, backed by the support of the wider firm, which is particularly important when it comes to training and guiding the next generation of lawyers.”
Our department has Partner-led teams in each of our offices in Derby, Leicester and Nottingham, led by Riaz Dudhia. Riaz said:
“It’s fantastic to see the success and development of our team in Derby where the market is particularly active. Paul has shown initiative and a desire to take on more responsibility since he joined Nelsons and has the leadership qualities to guide the team as they continue to move forwards.
“Alongside the expertise of Sarah, Amy and Martin, the increased opportunities in the market and our retained network of clients, I’m looking forward to more success for the commercial property team this year.”
