On Saturday 14th September, we embarked on a 9-mile superhero-themed charity walk to raise much-needed funds for Headway Nottingham.

Covering the first part of the Robin Hood Way from Nottingham Castle to Wollaton Hall and back, the ‘Robin to Batman’ walk involved 15 team members including Nelsons’ colleagues, loved ones, a support worker from Headway and even a four-legged friend, raising a total of £1,615 for the brain injury charity.

Headway Nottingham provides essential support, services, and rehabilitation to those affected by brain injuries and their family members. Earlier this year, the charity issued an urgent appeal for support after facing closure due to a financial gap.

Carolle White, Legal Director in our Medical Negligence team, said:

“We have a longstanding relationship with Headway Nottingham and often work with families who rely on the support of its services for the rest of their lives, so when we saw their appeal, we wanted to help fundraise.

“Headway provided us with branded t-shirts for the walk, and as a nod to the charity’s ‘Hats for Headway’ campaign, we all wore Robin Hood hats too. Our goal was not only to raise vital funds to support the incredible work they do, but to also increase awareness about brain injuries and the profound impact they have on individuals and families.

“Our support goes further than just this charity walk, however, as Headway Nottingham has been chosen as our nominated charity of the year in our Nottingham office, so we look forward to raising even more for this incredible organisation.”

Brain injury-related hospital admissions remain more frequent than cancer diagnoses in the UK, with someone admitted every 90 seconds, and for many, these injuries will result in life-long, complex disabilities.

Charlotte Leask, charity leader at Headway Nottingham, said:

“It was fantastic to see so many of the Nelsons team take part in the Robin to Batman walk. Not only did they give up their Saturdays, but they’ve raised a tremendous amount of money to support our community.

“Every penny raised on the day will be used to make sure the brain injury community throughout Nottinghamshire continues to receive the life-changing rehabilitative support that they deserve. The Nelsons team really are superheroes for Headway Nottingham.”

Alongside Headway Nottingham, our Leicester office has selected the Leicester Hospitals Charity as its chosen charity, supporting patients, the staff who look after them in Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and beyond.

In Derby, funds are being raised for the The Ben Parker Trust Fund “Ben’s Den” – supporting the families of children fighting leukaemia or cancer, by gifting free holidays to spend much needed, quality family time together away from the overwhelming hospital environment.
