Police Findings Report On Aston Hall Hospital

The long awaited police report following a four year investigation into allegations of historical abuse at Aston Hall Hospital is due to be released very shortly.

The report will be released at the same time as the Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Board Assurance report, which includes multi-agency input.

The media will be given the opportunity to interview representatives from the police and agencies who have contributed to the investigation.

The reports will be available on Derbyshire Police’s website on Wednesday 25th July 2018.

Aston Hall Hospital

The claimants allege that they were admitted to Aston Hall Mental Hospital in the 1960’s/70’s, unnecessarily, via social services and/or the probation service. All of the claimants were treated by the same psychiatrist, whom they claim ‘experimented’ on them by subjecting them to ‘narco-analysis’.

Narco-analysis is a type of therapy conducted while someone is in a sleep-like state induced by barbiturates or other drugs, as a means of releasing repressed thoughts, memories or feelings.

The claimants allege that they were given strong drugs such as Sodium Amytal, also known as Amobarbital, and that the use of this barbiturate derivative and this form of therapy was not necessary, performed without any permission in inappropriate circumstances and wasn’t a suitable form of treatment for any child, especially those whose only problems were behavioural. Some of the claimants were as young as ten years old when they were subjected to narco-analysis.

A number of former Aston Hall patients also claim that they were physically, emotionally and sexually abused, both whilst under the influence of these drugs and undergoing this treatment, and by other members of staff during their stay at Aston Hall Mental Hospital.
