Compensation for burn injuries
Burn injuries can occur from many different accidents and can involve chemicals, radiation, steam, or friction. They may be caused by coming into contact with hot surfaces or liquids without appropriate protection, an accident at work or in a public place, a road traffic accident, or due to a faulty product.
If you have been involved in an accident that was not your fault, you may be able to make a burn injury compensation claim.

How much is my burn injury claim worth?
Compensation for a burn injury is usually split into one of three categories depending on how severe your injuries are:
- 1st-degree burns – Considered to be the mildest type of burn. They affect the first layer of the skin (known as the epidermis).
- 2nd-degree burns – Known as partial-thickness burns, these burns cause pain, redness, swelling, and blistering to the first and second layer (the dermis) of the skin.
- 3rd-degree burns – Resulting in white or blackened areas of skin, they penetrate the dermis and affect deeper tissues, possibly causing numbness.
The severity of the burns will affect the level of compensation you are entitled to but you can also claim for long-term problems, such as disfigurement, scarring, amputation, emotional damage, and side effects, such as breathing problems or infection.
The burn injury compensation you receive could help you to cover the costs of ongoing medical care and treatment, plus any charges you have incurred as a result of not being able to work.
