New Year, New Will!

The beginning of a new year is a time where most people reflect on the past year and start thinking about the future. One particular document that is often under consideration in the new year is a person’s Will – do they need to make one or update an existing Will.

Do you have a Will in place?

A Will is a legal document that outlines how a person’s assets and possessions will be distributed after their death. A Will enables you to appoint an executor(s) to administer your estate, choose your beneficiaries, establish any gifts you would like to make, establish guardians for any children, establish funeral wishes, as well as create trusts. Moreover, it allows you to express your intention and protect your assets including any property, jewellery, and business to name a few.

Has there been any changes in your circumstances?

This can either be a change in your financial or family circumstances. If yes, it may be time to review your Will. We usually recommend a Will review every five years, however a change in circumstance may prompt a Will review sooner than that.

How can we help?

  • Arranging an appointment – we can arrange an appointment with our specialist team who will assist you with creating your new Will. Appointments can be either face-to-face or virtual i.e. teams.
  • Thorough Will reviews – we can review your existing Will to identify any outdated provisions or potential areas for improvement. We then work closely with you to discuss and implement necessary updates. If an amendment is required, we can proceed with a Codicil or a New Will.

Process of creating/amending your Will?

  1. Obtain your instructions
  2. Prepare your draft Will/Codicil
  3. Send you the draft via e-mail or post for your approval
  4. Once approved, we will arrange a further meeting to sign your said document or post the said document to yourself to further execute
  5. Sign Will!
