The Sevenoaks Chronicle recently reported on an accident at a school where a pupil suffered serious injuries when he was hit on the head with a shot put in a PE lesson.
PE is clearly a positive and important part of the school curriculum, but many sports come with a risk of injury. In this case the school was fined £10,000 for failing to follow its own risk assessment, which is what resulted in the shot put incident.
School Injuries
The law recognises that some activities are dangerous and that some dangerous activities are desirable, despite the danger. However, the law equally requires steps to be taken to reduce the risk of injury where appropriate and reasonable.
If you or your child has been injured at school, while playing sport or taking part in leisure or other activities, then you might be able to pursue a personal injury claim for compensation.
