Khyber Pass Takeaway Owners Imprisoned for Food Poisoning

Dianne Collins

The owners of the Khyber Pass Takeaway in Hyson Green, Nottingham, have each been given four months’ prison sentences suspended for a year and ordered to do 250 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to seven food hygiene offences at Nottingham Crown Court.

142 customers of the takeaway restaurant reported having had nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, later diagnosed as E coli, after eating food purchased from the takeaway in June 2014.  It was only the second recorded case in Europe of this particular strain of E coli.

Nelsons have so far acted for several customers of the Khyber Pass takeaway who were affected by the incident and have obtained compensation for clients ranging from £2,600 to £3,250. Other claims are ongoing – more information can be found in our previous article.
