Under the Government’s commitment to making a green coronavirus recovery, the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy has launched the Green Homes Grant scheme, which provides vouchers that contribute towards the cost of making energy-efficient improvements to homes. These improvements could include insulating homes, installing low carbon heating, etc.
The voucher will cover two-thirds of eligible improvements, up to a maximum Government contribution of £5,000. Additionally, if you or another member of your household is receiving certain benefits, the Government will be providing vouchers to cover 100% of the cost of improvements up to £10,000.
Am I eligible for the Green Homes Grant?
The eligibility criteria for the Green Homes Grant is fairly straightforward, you simply need to own your own home/park home. A simple eligibility checker, to include any additional funding can be found here.
How do I apply for the Green Homes Grant?
When you have checked your eligibility using the above link you will need to check what improvements would be suitable for your home (by visiting this page) – examples include additional insulation, replacing windows and installing solar panels at your property.
You will then need to find an installer to carry out your works.
You should arrange to get a quotation from a certified installer and the scheme recommends that you obtain at least three quotes from certified installers. When you apply for the voucher you will need to provide a copy of the quote. You may use different installers to install different measures but you only need to complete a single application form.
After you have found someone that is able to carry out the proposed works you can apply for the voucher. The form can be filled in here and takes you through the standard criteria before issuing a voucher. The vouchers are available from this month until 31st March 2022.
How do I redeem my Green Homes Grant voucher?
When the works are completed you will need to provide your reference number along with your postcode, email address, voucher number, and the dated invoice. You will need to confirm that:
- The works have been completed to your satisfaction;
- You have paid your contribution towards the costs; and
- That you have received any required certification documents from the installer.
When this information has been provided, the grant will be paid on your behalf directly to the installer.
The redemption link can be found here.
