At least eight police forces are now investigating allegations of historic football abuse claims from individuals who allege that they were abused whilst on youth training schemes in the 1990’s.
The allegations are now being investigated as part of ‘Operation Hydrant’ which investigates allegations of abuse which involve either people of public prominence and/or abuse which has taken place in an institution.
The Football Association has introduced a dedicated hotline, staffed by NSPCC professionals, which is available 24 hours a day on 0800 023 2642. In the first two hours after the helpline was set up more than 50 calls had been received.
It is anticipated that many more individuals will come forward in the coming weeks.
