Feeling Financial Stress? Put A Plan Together & Set Your Mind At Ease

Daniel Freestone

Finances, like life, can be stressful. The weight of financial stresses can weigh heavily on us all. So, it’s no surprise that financial stress is such a common source of anxiety which can impact us at any point in our life, regardless of our wider financial situation.

Financial well-being is a thread that weaves through many aspects of our health and happiness. It’s not just about having enough money to meet our needs; it’s about feeling secure, in control, and able to plan for the future. A sense of financial well-being is closely linked to our overall health, affecting our mental state, stress levels, and even our physical health.

So, if we are feeling stressed about our finances, how do we combat the stress, and improve our overall wellbeing? Well, as with many fears and anxieties that cause stress, much of it comes down to our deeply ingrained fear of the unknown.

Therefore, in order to combat the stress of the unknown, we need clarity. Clarity comes from having a simple, yet robust and reliable financial plan in place.

As with anything in life, committing to taking the first step can be hard, particularly if the financial situation feels acutely overwhelming or insurmountable, even. However, the benefits that come with taking that first step can be priceless and sometimes the positive impact they have can’t simply be measured in pounds and pence.

Although it may seem counter-intuitive to pay for financial advice, seeking out expert financial advice can be invaluable. Perhaps it’s arranging the life insurance you’ve been putting off, planning for how you are going to pay for care costs in later life, or even ensuring that your family are taken care of after you have passed. Whatever it is that may be important to you, a financial planner can help.

Even the process of putting a plan together can in itself be cathartic. All of a sudden, we can go from feeling lost and anxious to all of a sudden feeling a sense of peace, sound in the knowledge that I have a plan, I know what my desired outcomes are and importantly, I know what steps are required in order to get me to my desired destination.

The psychological impact of financial well-being cannot be overstated. When we feel financially secure, we’re more likely to take care of our health, invest time in our relationships, and pursue activities that bring us joy. Conversely, when we’re financially stressed, our health and happiness can suffer dramatically.

Our relationship between money and emotions can be complex and deeply personal. But by confronting the unknown with knowledge, understanding, and expertise we can ensure that our finances inspire feelings of security and confidence, setting our minds at ease, and allowing us to enjoy our lives unshackled from the burden of financial stress.
