Transgender Rights In The Workplace: Understanding Your Obligations And How To Support Your Staff
March 18 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm£100
Stonewall (an LGBT charity) reported in 2017 that half of those trans people responding to its survey hid their identity at work for fear of discrimination, showing a gap between increasing public declarations of inclusivity and the reality facing the UK’s trans workforce.
In recent years transgender people and the issues that they face from day to day have become more visible in the media. Although protection against discrimination has been in place for transgender people long before the Equality Act 2010, some people have little to no knowledge of this area. And it’s a difficult one to navigate, not least because of the broad range of views and beliefs held by people and the evolving terminology and differences in opinion about that.
Many employers do want to foster a respectful and inclusive environment but do not know where to turn for guidance and sometimes avoid addressing issues head on for fear of offending people. To achieve inclusivity in the workplace, all employers need to understand who is protected in legislation, what this means for their workplace and how they can seek to ensure that their staff do not experience discrimination.
If you are in HR/management/have responsibility for recruiting in your organisation then join us in our Nottingham office on 18 March 2020 for a seminar to improve your understanding and practical knowledge in this area.
This 2 hour session will cover:
- Gender Identity – what is gender and gender reassignment
- What does the law say?
- Practical issues
- Case Law examples
- The commercial and legal consequences of getting it wrong
- How to support your staff
The event will be an informative and useful insight into the rights of transgender people in the workplace which should enable you to deal with job applicants and staff confidently, sensitively and appropriately.
Registration and refreshments will be from 9.30am with the session commencing at 10am. We expect to finish at around 12pm.
We are offering this training for just £100 (inc VAT) per person.
