Nelsons secured compensation after being appointed to act on behalf of Ms.B who suffered multiple injuries in a road traffic accident when she was knocked off her bicycle.
She was cycling home from work with lights fully displayed and wearing a high visibility jacket when a car travelling in the opposite direction turned right across her path. She was thrown up on to the bonnet, her hand hitting and smashing the windscreen before landing in the road. Fortunately, she was wearing a bike helmet which protected her head but nevertheless she suffered concussion.
As a result of the accident, Ms B suffered various injuries including whiplash, injury to her neck and back, soft tissue injuries to her left hand, left wrist and left elbow with scarring to two of her fingers. She also hurt her right ankle and left knee, suffered a fat fracture to her left thigh and has been left with permanent scarring and necrosis.
Defendant Drivers Insurers Admitted Liability
A letter of claim was issued to the driver of the vehicle and this was passed on to the insurers who subsequently admitted liability. Medical records were obtained and then medical reports from an Orthopaedic Consultant and a Plastic Surgeon. Fees for the cost of surgery to improve the scarring to her left thigh were obtained. The claim was settled for a five figure sum and included compensation for her injuries including the treatment costs and care and assistance from her partner. In addition, other out of pocket expenses were also paid.
