In making a claim for compensation resulting from any hit and run traffic accident it is important that you get accurate details about the accident - but this is especially important if the other driver has no insurance.
In most hit and run accidents you won't be able to get the driver's name and address but try to get these details if possible:
- The model and registration number of the other vehicle
- Details of the damage to your vehicle
- Photographs of the accident scene
- Details of any witnesses to the accident
You should always ask for the other driver's Insurance details - if he or she has left the scene, or refuses to give you insurance details, you must report the incident to the police within 5 days.
- You can only claim to the MIB once the police and your insurance company have tried to find the uninsured driver
- The MIB excess on all claims is £350
