Mr T was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He had two ultrasound scans which reported both testes as abnormal and infiltrated by tumour. He therefore proceeded to surgery when both testicles were removed. It was then discovered that the right testicle was benign and had therefore been removed in error. Because of the loss of both testicles Mr T will require testosterone replacement therapy for the rest of his life.
X Hospital Trust accepted that there had been an error in the scanning, leading to the misdiagnosis of cancer in the right testicle. It offered Mr T an unreserved apology.
Claire Liptrot and Bashali Majumdar were instructed by Mr T to pursue a claim against X Hospital Trust which was promptly settled for a substantial five figure sum.
