Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs)

ISAs are ways of saving without paying tax on earnings from the investment:-

  • You can pay money in up to agreed limits and take it out when you want to
  • Unlike interest on other savings accounts (e.g. Building Societies) you don't pay tax on the interest you earn
  • Any existing ISA can be transfered to Stocks and Shares ISA
  • Generate a substantial tax free income stream

There are different kinds of ISA:-

  • stocks and shares ISA, for longer-term saving where you can leave your money untouched for periods of time
  • simple cash ISA, for savings that you need to get at quickly

In all but a cash ISA your investment may go down in value as well as up.
