A balanced portfolio at a modest cost.
Unit Trusts and Open-Ended Investment Companies (OEICs) are Collective Investment Schemes that allow investors to participate in a broad portfolio of investments:-
- You take a direct investment in a scheme whose fund managers then manage the investments for you
- The value of the investment is very closely linked to the value of the underlying assets
Unit trusts are:-
- Collective Investment funds, in which your entitlement is defined by the number of units you hold
- They are governed by a legally binding trust deed between the trustee and the unit trust manager
Open-Ended Investment Companies (OEICs) are:-
- Umbrella funds under which there can be many sub-funds
- You can invest for both income and growth in the same umbrella fund whilst moving money from one sub fund to another as you choose
.Collective Investments schemes pool cash from many investors they so they offer:-
- A good way of investing relatively small sums in larger funds
- Access to markets which you might otherwise avoid
- A chance to spread risk because of the diversity of the underlying investment portfolio
Remember:-
- The value of your investments can rise & fall
- You might not get back a significant amount of your investment
- Past performance may not be repeated
