Nelsons gives Students Intelligence on Protecting Designs

Protecting intellectual property in the fashion industry was the lesson of the day for degree students at Nottingham Trent University, thanks to lawyers from Nelsons.

Directors and intellectual property specialists at Nelsons, Jim Carter and Stewart Vandermark presented to twenty-five students studying for a Masters in International Fashion Business. The talk covered patents, confidential information, copyright, design rights and trademarks. It also looked at infringement and passing-off actions using examples of recent cases.

Ena Brown, a senior lecturer at Nottingham Trent University's School of Art & Design says: “The talk went down very well, especially helped by some good examples of copying. I think the students, who were predominantly from overseas, found it very beneficial to understand the difference between UK and European regulations, as did I. I hope we can repeat the session next year.”
